"Dr. Ramroop took our vision of a day to celebrate the brilliance, beauty and creativity of girls in our global city, and manifested it as a major STEAM and multicultural festival for the region," said Iyabeji Adeyela Bennett, WIT President and Chief Engagement Officer. "We couldn't think of a person better qualified to highlight careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics than a woman who works everyday in the STEM field, then devotes her private time to unifying people of various cultural backgrounds."

Councillor Mitchell is no stranger to centering girls. A "Girl Dad," Councillor Mitchell has committed his career to uplifting families in the City of Montgomery.

"We are honored that Councillor Oronde Mitchell has accepted our invitation to co-chair the Third Annual WIT International Day of the Girl Child Festival," Bennett said. "We have observed Councillor Mitchell's generosity to children and families in our community. We see him constantly finding new ways to show his care, from hosting turkey giveaways and holiday shopping sprees to hosting tenant rights workshops. Co-chairing this multicultural and STEM festival is a natural progression for a public servant who values girls and families."
