Celebrate Girls at the WIT 5K on International Day of the Girl Child!

Tie up your shoe lacings, and come on out to the Seventh Annual WIT 5K on International Day of the Girl Child! Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Blount Cultural Park at 9:00 a.m.
Everyone is welcomed to participate by walking, running, volunteering, or donating to Women in Training, Inc. to help end period poverty. There is also the option to participate virtually from anywhere in the world.
"The United Nations' International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated annually on October 11th around the globe to focus attention on the need to address challenges girls face, promote girls’ empowerment and promote the fulfillment of girls’ human rights," said Chief Mataya Williams, Women in Training, Inc. Board Member and Chairwoman of the Seventh Annual WIT 5K. "We are doing our part to help end period poverty!"
Williams is the Command Chief Master Sergeant of the 187th Fighter Wing, Dannelly Field in Alabama. She serves as the senior enlisted leader for the wing and its three geographically separated units. Chief Williams is responsible for advising the commander on readiness, mission effectiveness, professional development, training, utilization, health, morale, and welfare of the wing’s enlisted force.
Joining Chief Williams as the WIT 5K Co-Chairwoman is Mrs. Taaka Wilson.
Mrs. Wilson volunteers as the Coordinator of the WITKITS Campaign to End Period Poverty.
Since its inception in July 2019, WIT volunteers have:
Distributed more than 40,000 WITKITS of menstrual, dental and hygiene supplies to families in need in Alabama; Washington, DC; Maryland; Pennsylvania; New Orleans; and Eleuthera, The Bahamas
Trained more than 1,000 girls in the Sacred Menstrual Hygiene workshop
Published more than 50,000 copies of the "WIT Guide to Menstrual Hygiene"
Mentored more than 100 middle and high school girls and young women in the WIT Leadership Development Academy
Raised more than $2 million to help End Poverty. PERIOD!
