The Women’s Foundation of Alabama invited 14-year-old Brooke and Breanna Bennett, co-founders of Women in Training, Inc., to speak at the Women’s Policy Institute’s inaugural and fall sessions.
“Every day, Alabama families living in poverty are making the tough decision of whether or not they should pay for rent, electricity, running water, food or medical care,” Breanna said. “Most people understand these needs, so the government, churches and social service agencies provide some resources to help families with these issues.
Brooke continued: “There is one issue that impacts families in Alabama--and across this nation--that most people are not aware of, and that’s period poverty.”
The WIT founders further explained that they created Women in Training, Inc. with the goal of ending period poverty; however, the organization has expanded its focus to Ending Poverty. PERIOD!
