Running or walking at the 5th Annual Women in Training, Inc. 5K on March 2, 2025, was a great way to kick off Women's History Month! The fundraiser, held at Montgomery Whitewater, celebrated Girl Power; however, many male allies came out to lend their support to the campaign to help end period poverty. Runners from all ages -- from an infant to elders -- donned their metallic pink 5K shirts.

Thank you to the sponsors for the 5th Annual WIT 5K:

The WIT 5K Steering Committee consisted of the following powerful leaders:

  • Ms. Dana Taunton, Esq., Principal, Beasley Allen Law Firm and Governance Committee Chairwoman, Women in Training, Inc. Board of Directors

  • Dr. Celeste Reese, CEO and Founder, Doctor Celeste, MD and Medical Chairwoman, Women in Training, Inc. Board of Directors

  • Chief Master Sergeant Mataya Williams, 187th Fighter Wing, Dannelly Field, Alabama Air National Guard

  • Iya Ibeji Adeyela Bennett, President and CEO, Women in Training, Inc.

Mr. Pete Preston was the expert Race Director.

The Race Director declared Mr. Jaelyn Giles-Dupree the overall winner, coming in at 22.02 minutes -- without breaking a sweat! Mr. Giles-Dupree was also the winner in the men's category.

The second place winner was Jennifer Emmel, who came in at 23.04 minutes. Ms. Emmel was also the winner in the women's category. She said this was her first run after healing from an injury, but that was not obvious!

One in four American girls and young women skip school or miss work because they cannot afford sanitary pads or tampons to stay healthy and clean during their period. To alleviate

period poverty, Brooke and Breanna Bennett started Women in Training, Inc. (WIT) on their 12th birthday in July 2019. WIT volunteers provide donations of WITKITS —

canvas bags full of feminine hygiene products — to underserved young women. WIT also provides educational information programs about menstruation for girls and publishes the brochure, “The WIT Guide to the Menstrual Cycle.”
