African Dance Class Off to a Rhythmic Start

The incredible Maya Michelle, accompanied by drummer Duron Hale, kicked off her first African dance workshop for the WIT Rites of Passage Circle by taking the daughters step-by-step through learning Lamban, a traditional West African celebration and ceremonial dance. By the end of the September workshop, the daughters realized that African dance is about spiritually connecting with our ancestral culture -- and about getting a serious workout.

“I was sweating and my heart rate increased tremendously during the dance,” said Brooke Bennett, co-founder of Women in Training, Inc. “African dance is a great way to learn about our ancient traditions while getting a great workout!”
