Courtney is originally from southeastern Kentucky and calls Central Appalachia home. They just graduated from the University of Washington’s Community-Oriented Public Health Practice program for a Master of Public Health with special interest in Community-Based Participatory Research methods, sexual and reproductive health, policy, and community organizing. They are URGE: Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity’s Alabama Policy & Movement Building Director, a clinic escort at the POWER House, and member of SONG (Southerners on New Ground in Montgomery).
Courtney is intent on spending their time and resources addressing the upstream factors of oppression that lead to poor health outcomes in oppressed populations. Integral components of their work and livelihood include cross-stitching, practicing witchcraft, playing outside, and caring for their cats. Courtney uses they/them pronouns and identifies as a non-binary femme lesbian.
